MELAKA: The imprisoned former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will not be allowed to make any statements regarding the 15th General Election (GE15).

Prisons Department director of prisons policy Supri Hashim said any prisoners serving a sentence are not allowed to issue any statements, including the former prime minister.

"So far, no statements can be issued by prisoners from prison. They are not allowed to issue any statements, in fact, any letters or documents need to be censored first," said Supri when asked if Najib was allowed to issue any statement including about GE15.

He said this after the opening of the 'Menjangkau Abad Dinding Penjara' exhibition at the Banda Hilir prison here by state Women Affairs, Family Development and Welfare Exco member Datuk Kalsom Noordin.

Supri said any documents, including letters to the family, sent out by prisoners, was vetted by the prisons department.

"We have nothing to do with any political programmes. We are only carrying out our duties."

Najib is currently serving a prison sentence after the Federal Court upheld his conviction and sentences of 12 years' jail and a RM210 million fine, on being found guilty of embezzling RM42 million in funds belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.
