ARAU: Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalulail has consented for absentee funeral prayers to be performed at all mosques in the state for the world-renowned Muslim scholar Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi who died at the age of 97 on Monday.

Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail in a statement issued by the Perlis Council of Islamic Religious and Malay Customs (MAIPs) today said the absentee funeral prayers for the late Qaradawi would be performed at all mosques statewide right after Zohor prayer tomorrow.

"As such, all Muslims are encouraged to join the congregations in their respective areas in performing the prayers based on the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)," he said in the statement.

The Raja Muda, who is also MAIPs president, said Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin is expected to join the congregation to perform the prayers at the Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail Mosque in Kangar.

Qaradawi, an Egypt-born cleric who was based in Qatar, was the founder of the Doha-based International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS). – BERNAMA
