BANTING: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is partnering with the Anti-Corruption Student Group (AMAR) to spread anti-corruption messages among university students nationwide.

MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Seri Norazlan Mohd Razali said the partnership was necessary to ensure more than one million students at the public higher education institutions, private higher education institutes, polytechnics and those at community colleges aware of the crime.

He said the rollout of the anti-corruption programmes at universities and colleges was significant with AMAR's vision of creating a corruption-free young generation.

"Various studies by scholars and international organisations have found that movements like AMAR are an important component and able to attract supports from domestic and foreign organisations.

"For instance, the anti-corruption movement led by students in Thailand, the Thai Youth Anti-Corruption Network which was established in 2012, has received strong support from the United Nations Development Programme and has had collaborations with others in the private sector such as the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the Thai Bankers' Association and the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET)," he said when speaking at the closing ceremony of the 8th AMAR 2022 Convention at El-Azzhar Camp, here today.

The three-day convention, started on Friday, has seen the attendance of 118 AMAR leaders.

Also present were MACC Community Education Division director Datuk Razim Mohd Noor and Selangor MACC director Datuk Alias Salim.

Meanwhile, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) AMAR president Nur Raihana Azizee said she planned to organise seminars and courses focusing on AMAR's mission and vision involving more than 71 AMAR members at UMS.

She said many benefits were obtained from the three-day convention such as exchanging opinions and information to hold large-scale seminars in the future.

Poly-Tech University College MARA Kuala Lumpur AMAR president, Asniati Ambo said they had organised a TikTok competition with the theme being integrity and identity for all students at her university in conjunction with independence month.

"Although the AMAR club was only established last year, we always hold lectures and quizzes on integrity whenever new student registration begins," she said.

Smart College Kuala Lumpur AMAR president Nik Muhammad Aizat Aiman Abdullah said they planned to organise more interactive programmes to encourage more students to join the AMAR club.

"We have to teach them to hate corruption from now," he said.
