MUAR: St Andrew's School (SAS) Muar's reputation as an elite school has solidified and spread over the years, thanks to its dedicated teachers.
Muar Andreans Association (MAA) - the school's old boys alumni - president Tang Ching Leng said the teachers' concerted efforts resulted in SAS Muar excelling both in the academic and sporting activities.
"The school has produced successful professionals in all fields," said Tang of the Johor school.
He singled out educators like the late Brother Robert O'Sullivan, who was the school's principal-cum-Brother director from 1954 to 1980.
Tang said Brother O'Sullivan, who died in 2001, had served as the eighth and longest SAS Muar principal.
"The school was fortunate to have the services of a young and tough principal, who was to stay for over 25 years and steer the school to what it is today," said Tang after the school's 16th Annual Run held in conjunction with the launch of two prestigious educational awards.
Meanwhile, St Andrew's board of managers/governors member Lim Thiam Soon said the annual run was for students t a healthy and fit individual.
"After the run, the visiting La Salle brothers shared with the students the Lasallian values of faith, service and community. They advised the students to believe in themselves and have faith in what they do," he said referring to visiting La Salle brothers from Mexico and the Philippines.
"They were told to serve others especially the 'last, the lost and the least', and work together as a community to achieve and realise each other's dream," said Lim.
He added that SAS Muar was one of the premier secondary schools and continued to maintain its reputation in the educational field.
"It has produced excellent results, many times scoring above 85 per cent passes in public examinations.
"Till today, we celebrate the heritage and legacy, and continuing the Lasallian ethos and values in Malaysia," said Lim.
