SERDANG: A final-year varsity student was found dead in a room of a residential college at Universiti Putra Malaysia Serdang yesterday.

Serdang district police chief Assistant Commissioner A.A. Anbalagan said they received an emergency call about the discovery of the male student's body at 7.45pm.

"Initial investigation found that the 29-year-old was a semester six (final-year) master's student of the Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication who lived alone in the residential college room.

"The body was found without a shirt, wearing long pants and lying on the floor next to the bed," he said.

"The body was found at 4.30pm by a witness, who had not seen the victim for a long time. The witness detected a foul smell coming from the victim's room at that time.

"The witness then informed the college's fellow, and a university staff used a duplicate key to open the door of the victim's room."

The investigation also found that the victim was last seen two days prior to the discovery of his body.

He said forensic and investigation teams found there were no criminal elements detected near the scene.

Anbalagan said the case was classified as sudden death, and the body was sent to the Serdang Hospital for post-mortem.
