KUALA LUMPUR: The Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) is currently on the lookout for a tiger reportedly sighted at Kemensah Heights today.

Ampang police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Farouk Eshak said police sought the assistance of Selangor Perhilitan following a viral WhatsApp message claiming the sighting of a tiger.

"Police had already gone to scene following the viral message. Initial investigation showed that residents in the area were aware of the claim made by the security guard who said that he saw a tiger near a lamp pole in Jalan Tropika, Kemensah 3, Kemensah Height.

"Selangor Perhilitan arrived at the site at 4pm and attempted to track the tiger. However, information about the sighting was incomplete. The Perhilitan team is still at the scene to locate the tiger," he said in a statement today.

Farouk said police had yet to receive any report on the matter, adding that no witnesses had come forward.

"The security guard who claimed to have seen the tiger is a temporary guard and a foreigner, and police have yet to locate him.

"Ampang police have increased patrols in the area for the safety of the residents," he said.

He urged members of the public who have information on the matter to come forward to assist police investigation.

He also reminded the public to not spread unverified information.
