RANAU: A 6-year-old boy endured pain when his tongue got stuck in a narrow opening of a beverage bottle.

During the incident at 2.45pm, the child was sent to Ranau Hospital, where staff members contacted the Fire and Rescue Department for assistance.

Ranau fire station chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said two firemen were sent to the hospital.

"Upon arrival, the fire brigade found the child's tongue stuck to the drink bottle but he did not suffer any serious injuries.

"We cut the bottle open and removed it using special equipment," he said when contacted today.

Ridwan added that it took less than 10 minutes to cut the object.

"The operation ended at 3.40pm and the case was handed over to the hospital medical team for further treatment for the victim," he said.
