TUARAN: Authorities are on high alert here and Kota Belud following the non-stop rain which led to flooding in several areas in both districts today.

In Tuaran, district Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM) spokesperson Paulina Francis said as of noon, a family of eight adults and two children were transferred to the Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) at Surau Kampung Tinuhan, Tenghilan.

Other areas in the district affected by the floods are Pekan Tenghilan, Kampung Bunga, Kampung Suang Bangau and Kampung Paruh.

"A house in Kampung Tinuhan was also reported to have collapsed but no one was injured. All the occupants were moved to their relatives' house.

"Meanwhile, due to the flooding of the Tuaran river, all vehicles could not pass through Tamparuli bridge," she said.

In Kota Belud, the district APM officer Jimmy Alberto Tining said there was an increase in the water level of Sungai Tempasuk, Sungai Abai and Sungai Kadamaian which reached the alert level of 4.80 metres.

"The water level of the three rivers that overflowed into the land resulted in 17 villages being affected. However, it is still under control.

"The APM has received information that 11 residents have been evacuated to their nearest relatives' house at Kampung Lentigi," he said.

Jimmy said following the unpredictable weather over the past three days, rescue teams have been monitoring and preparing to help residents at the affected areas.

Among the villages affected are are Kampung Bobot, Kampung Ejuk, Kampung Siasai Tamu, Kampung Kota Belud, Kampung Menunggui, Kampung Sembirai, Kampung Lingkodon, Kampung Linau and Kampung Gunding.

Other villages are Kampung Suang Punggur, Kampung Sadok-Sadok, Kampung Song-Song Kampung Marajah, Kampung Lebak Engad, Kampung Lebak Moyoh, Kampung Limatok and Kampung Taun Gusi Keranjangan.
