KOTA KINABALU: The Qhazanah Sabah Group (QSG) has handed over its business zakat obligation of RM376,013 to the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (MUIS) for financial year ending Dec 31, 2021.

QSG chairman Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak presented the zakat to MUIS president Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin during the QSG zakat distribution and breaking of fast with 24 residents from Home Tuaran at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here yesterday.

It was witnessed by state Local Government and Housing Minister cum Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

Besides that, Qhazanah Sabah also handed over RM10,000 to Home Tuaran as part of the Sabah government's investment arm corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Salleh who also presented raya packets to the residents said Ramadan was a time for Muslims to immerse themselves in spiritual devotion and self-reflection.

"During this time Muslims place great importance in helping those who are less fortunate, which is a virtue, which we at Qhazanah Sabah hold close to," said Salleh.

He said Qhazanah Sabah's practice of organising the breaking of fast and distributing Hari Raya goodies to spread festive spirit among underprivileged children at orphanages around the state since the company's founding in 1995.

Home Tuaran manager Junaidah Hassan said the outing was a good opportunity for the children to have a chance to interact with other people and to experience their kindness.

She said the financial contribution would be used to cover the home's maintenance costs and daily operation expenses.

In a separate event earlier, SICC hosted a breaking of fast charity event for 60 residents of Rumah Amal Kasih from Kota Kinabalu.

SICC chief executive officer Datuk Rosmawati Lasuki said this was the first of the many CSR events to be organised by the convention centre.

"We invited the residents aged between eight and 17 years old to come and savour the 700 dishes offered in our 'A Taste of Asian' Ramadan dinner buffet.

"It's a just a simple gathering between the residents and the management team as our intention is to let the residents enjoy the ambience and merriment of a berbuka puasa event", she said.
