SETIU: The worsening flood situation in Terengganu forced 10,861 people to evacuate their homes.

As at 6am today, the floods have affected 3,097 families who were moved by rescuers to 157 relief centres.

State Disaster Management Committee secretariat, in updating the flood situation, said rescuers had been working round-the-clock to help victims to move to higher grounds and relief centres.

As the weather's showing no signs of abating, the rescuers expect more people in low-lying areas and flood prone areas to be evacuated.

Here, the flood victims evacuated increased to 1,277 people from 391 families and are at 30 relief centres.

In Kemaman, 2,750 people from 747 families were evacuated to 22 flood relief centres while in Dungun, 1,236 people from 362 families have sought temporary shelter at 23 relief centres.

In Besut, the floods have forced 2,187 people from 516 families to evacuate their homes and moved to 44 relief centres.

In Hulu Terengganu, the number of flood victims increased to 2,946 people from 950 families who have sought shelter at 27 relief centres.

In Kuala Terengganu, 53 people from 14 families were evacuated to two relief centres while in Kuala Nerus, 407 people from 116 families were evacuated to eight relief centres.

In Marang, five people from one family are still staying at a temporary shelter.
