SETIU: Relentless rainfall across Terengganu which caused widespread flooding have forced 4,463 people from 1,315 families to evacuate their homes.

State Disaster Management Committee secretariat in updating the flood situation said the victims were evacuated to 91 flood relief centres.

With rains showing no signs of abating, rescuers are bracing for more victims to be moved to safety later today.

As of 10 am, the floods in Kemaman have forced 2,158 people from 579 families to evacuate their homes to seek temporary shelter at 21 relief centres.

In Setiu, 824 people from 250 families were rescued from their flooded homes and moved to 22 shelters.

In Dungun, 145 people from 39 families sought shelter at six relief centres while in Besut 397 people from 100 families are now at 20 relief centres.

In Hulu Terengganu, floods forced 689 people from 274 families to evacuate their homes and are now housed at 14 relief centres.

In Marang, the situation remained unchanged with five people from a sole family now staying at one relief centre.

In Kuala Terengganu, 58 people from 13 families are now at two relief centres, whereas in Kuala Nerus 287 people from 58 families sought shelter at five relief centres.

State Disaster Management Committee secretariat said the rising trend in the number of flood evacuees was due to the non-stop heavy rain and rising water levels that flooded low lying areas.
