PAPAR: A crocodile weighing 150 kilograms was captured in a ditch at a construction site in Taman Resident Prima Kinarut, here, today.

The presence of the reptile was noticed by a resident who happened to pass by the construction site, at about 8am.

A Sabah Civil Defence Force (APM) spokesman said they received a call regarding an incident from a complainant at 8.15am.

"According to the report, the complainant informed that he was passing through the construction site of the park and saw a crocodile was stranded at the edge of the ditch, at the main fence of the construction site.

"Concerned with the safety of residents and construction site workers, the complainant then called the 999 emergency line for assistance," he said in a statement here today.

He added as soon as Civil Defence personnel reached the scene at 9am, an operation to catch the crocodile was immediately carried out.

"The four-meter-long animal weighing 150 kilograms was captured," he said.

The operation ended at 9.40am and the reptile was handed over to the Wildlife Rescue Unit (WRU).
