KUALA LUMPUR

IT can be painful when small pleasures, such as enjoying ice cream or iced drinks with friends, are taken away by sensitive teeth.

Without proper tooth care, people could end up suffering from teeth sensitivity for years before the condition is  diagnosed by professionals.

Sensodyne has come up with a solution to  help consumers reclaim life's small pleasures with its Repair & Protect Deep Repair toothpaste, which was launched yesterday.

The product, introduced under its #ReclaimLifeSmallPleasures campaign, also comes with infotainment and tooth-care tips to educate people about the importance of oral hygiene.

The Sensodyne Repair and Protect Deep Repair toothpaste uses NovaMin️ technology that goes deep into the teeth to repair sensitive teeth and forms a protective layer for clinically proven sensitivity relief.

It contains fluoride that helps to strengthen enamel and provides protection for sensitive teeth, while keeping teeth and gums healthy.

GSK Consumer Healthcare Malaysia general manager Bryan Wong said the product was inspired by the results of studies conducted by the company with Ipsos and Southeast Asia and Taiwan Quantitative Research.

He said the studies, based on consumers' oral healthcare habits during the Covid-19 pandemic, returned alarming results.

"The pandemic caused an alarming decrease  in the frequency of  dental visits, which have changed oral healthcare habits among consumers in Southeast Asia countries, including Malaysia," he said during the virtual launch.

Wong said there  were a range of  things  that could trigger a twinge or tooth sensation for people with sensitive teeth.

"The studies showed that every seven out of 10 Malaysians suffered from  tooth sensitivity, while 39 per cent of sufferers were aware of it, and 32 per cent of others who experienced the symptoms were not aware of their tooth sensitivity conditions.

"The other alarming results from the studies showed that 58 per cent of Malaysians suffered random pain when consuming cold food or drinks, when they were brushing their teeth (38 per cent) or when food was stuck in between their gums and dentures (33 per cent).

Through this programme, we hope to educate Malaysians to prioritise oral healthcare at an individual level, as well as learning various ways to identify and manage tooth sensitivity."

Wong said he hoped Malaysians would be able to get the protection their teeth needed from Sensodyne toothpastes.

Sensodyne's #ReclaimLifeSmallPleasures campaign will be rolled out in stages starting this month.

"Infotainment and educational content prepared by healthcare professionals, social creators and influencers will be served through our online portal and social media channels, as well as traditional and digital media platforms.

"Samples of Sensodyne Repair & Protect Deep Repair toothpaste are available at up to 1,000 dental clinics nationwide during this campaign. Each pack will be sold for RM10 on the GSK flagship store on Shopee  until  Jan 31," he said.

He said consumers could get a pack of Sensodyne Repair & Protect Deep Repair toothpaste at pharmacies, dental clinics, minimarkets, supermarkets and hypermarkets.

A consumer was entitled to receive an additional 10 per cent discount and RM5 ShopeeFood vouchers for a minimum spend of RM35 for all Sensodyne's products, he added.
