KUCHING: The Finance Ministry and Inland Revenue Board (IRB) have been urged to consider automatic allocation of Bantuan Keluarga Malaysia (BKM) financial assistance.

Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) Central Women Section chairman Kho Teck Wan said the current BKM status update and registration required applicants to provide e-mail address, five personal identifiable security questions, a unique passcode and login password.

She said it was very difficult for someone to remember all of the personal information, let alone senior citizens who were less likely to use modern technology such as email for communication.

"The application process and status update for BKM is too cumbersome and unfriendly to senior citizens.

"Besides, the likelihood of seniors having significant income increase resulting in them becoming ineligible to the financial aid is very low, hence I urge the Finance Ministry and Inland Revenue Board to forgo the need to do status update for the eligible seniors," she said in a statement today.

Kho said any new aids of similar nature should be automatically approved or allocated to eligible seniors who are already in the BKM list.
