KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said he is ready for his alleged misconduct case to be referred to the MACC's Complaints Committee.

At the same time, the anti-graft agency chief said he was also prepared to leave the case at the discretion of the Anti-Corruption Advisory Board (ACAB), adding that he did not hide any information regarding the allegations thrown against him.

Azam also said that he did not commit any criminal offence or abuse of power as alleged by certain quarters.

He told this to BH after making a surprise visit to the Sungai Jinjang Flood Reservoir here today.

In a recent statement, the Securities Commission (SC) said that it would be calling in Azam for an investigation.

Following that, several PKR members of parliament lodged a police report against the MACC chief commissioner yesterday.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Azam said that his superiors were informed when he allowed his brother to buy shares using his trading account in 2015. He was head of the MACC's investigation division at the time.

While ACAB said it had cleared Azam of any wrongdoing, opposition Member of Parliament's has pointed out that the ACAB's terms of reference do not give them the mandate to investigate or clear anyone of wrongdoing.

Today the ACAB denied a statement made by its chairman Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang, which absolved Azam of any criminal conduct.

Six ACAB board members, in a statement today, said they did not come to the same conclusion as Abu Zahar at any meeting before or after the special press conference held on Wednesday, adding that his comments were his own.
