MELAKA: Five temporary flood evacuation centres (PPS) have been opened in Alor Gajah, to house victims displaced by flooding.

Melaka Civil Defence Force (APM) director Lt Kol (PA) Cuthbert John Martin said the operational PPS were at SK Durian Tunggal which was activated at 9pm last night, followed by PPS SK Cherana Puteh and SK Telok Berembang, which have been operating since early this morning.

He said the other two operational PPS were at SMK Seri Pengkalan and Sekolah Rendah Agama Jabatan Agama Islam (JAIM) Jelatang whih was activated at 8.30am.

He said a total of 225 victims, involving 54 families have been evacuated to the PPS with Sk Telok Berembang housing the highest number of victims with 71 people as of now.

"Victims residing in Kampung Bukit Tambun, Kampung Jeram, Kampung Taboh Naning, Lubok China Town, Ramuan Besar China, Taman Seri Bayu, 1 & 2, Kampung Pengkalan and Kampung Panchor have been evacuated after their residential area was flooded," he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, he said, a total of 14 areas in Melaka Tengah district were also inundated.

"However, there were no PPS opened to evacuate the victims in the affected area.

"Other flood-affected areas in the district includes Batu Hampar, Peringgit, Kampung Enam,Taman Bukit Beruang Melawis, Hang Tuah Mall, Jalan Ong Kim Wee, Kampung Hulu, Kampung Morten and Malim Jaya.

"Lubuk Kasau areas in Jasin are also affected by the flood, but there has been no PPS opened there so far," he said.
