KEPALA BATAS: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry's branch office in Penang has issued the operator of a restaurant here with a Goods Information Verification Notices (NPMB) to explain the cost and sales price of its 'kailan ikan masin' (salted fish) dish.

The notice was issued following a recent social media posting that a customer was charged RM18 for the dish, which did not commensurate with the quantity given.

The ministry has given the trader two days to reply to the notice to enable them to conduct further investigation.

"The ministry's branch office in Penang has received information regarding the viral posting 'Harga terlalu mahal tidak setara kuantiti yang diberikan' through social media by a customer on the pricey kailan ikan masin dish yesterday (Sunday).

"Following that, our officers were sent to the restaurant to look into the complaint and issued the operator with a NPMB to respond within two days," it said in a statement.

In a social media posting on Sunday, a customer had uploaded the receipt which showed the overall price of RM122 for the food ordered at a restaurant in Kepala Batas.

The said customer was taken aback to be charged RM18 for a small portion of the kailan ikan masin dish.

The person claimed to be aware of the rising cost of raw materials and accepted the price paid for other dishes such as 'ikan jenahak' for RM90, 'sayur campur' (RM9) and 'ulam/sambal' (RM5).

However, the customer found it hard to accept the single portion 'kailan ikan masin dish' which was priced at RM18, which the person felt very expensive.
