SITIAWAN: A man who was reported missing after falling off a boat which he boarded with his elder brother and niece in the waters off Lekir, here, last night, was found drowned this morning.

It is understood that the victim, Nurman Hafiz Nordin, 35, who is also a member of Battalion 4 of the Semenyih General Operations Force was out fishing and fell from the boat while on their way back to the jetty at Batu 8, Lekir.

His body was found some 500 meters from the location where he was reported to have fallen at 8pm last night.

Sitiawan Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Zaki Zainol said the team received a distress call at 8.09pm.

Personnel and machinery were dispatched for search and rescue effort and was aided by Seri Manjung members.

"The victim who returned to his village for a holiday and had gone out to sea with his 43-year-old brother and 11-year-old niece.

"The boat they were on was said to have swayed as if it had collided with an object or struck by waves.

"The victim and his brother then fell into the sea, about 1.8 kilometres from the jetty. The victim's brother managed to get back into the boat, while the victim disappeared, " he said today.

He said the victim's brother tried searching for him but failed and immediately contacted the authorities for help.

"The victim's body was found at 8am this morning and was handed over to the police for further action before the operation ended at 9.30am," he said.
