KEPALA BATAS: The body of a man, feared drowned, after jumping into the river next to the Kompleks Pasar Bisik Ikan in Kota Kuala Muda near here yesterday to escape police, was found today.

The remains of the 37-year-old man were recovered in the waters off Pulau Sayak in Kedah at about 9.30am.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Radzi Ahmad said police received information about the discovery of the remains in Pulau Sayak this morning, about 10km from where the man had jumped.

"The man's body has been sent to the Kepala Batas Hospital for a post-mortem," he said.

It was reported that a group of men spotted gathering at Kompleks Pasar Bisik Ikan ran helter skelter when police stormed the area early yesterday morning.

Police from the Kepala Batas police station were on a crime prevention patrol and checking the compliance of the Covid-19 standard operating procedures there.

In the 3am incident, some of the men jumped into the river adjacent to the complex to escape the police.

Mohd Radzi had confirmed yesterday that one of the men who jumped into the river was still missing.
