MELAKA: Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Mohd Azrudin Mat Idris admits it will be a tough challenge ahead for the Pengkalan Batu seat which will see a five-cornered fight.

Mohd Azrudin, 42, said he will continue to campaign in full confidence though one of his opponents is the Pengkalan Batu incumbent Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee who is contesting as an independent.

"Norhizam is good but he does not represent any political party. He will be campaigning alone without any party support so he will not be backed by any machinery," he said.

Mohd Azrudin said Barisan Nasional (BN) is also another fierce competition for him but he was confident the voters would make the right choice.

The Pengkalan Batu seat will see a five cornered fight between Mohd Azrudin, Norhizam, BN's Datuk Kalsom Nordin, Muhamad Danish Zainudin (Pakatan Harapan-DAP) and Dr Mohd Alwi Sari from Putra.

Mohd Azrudin said he will be focusing on local issues such as improving the drainage system which triggered flash floods in the Pengkalan Batu area.

"The governance needs to be streamlined due to the increase in residential areas as it is one of the factors causing flash floods. The constituency needs a better drainage and irrigation system," he said.

Mohd Azrudin also hopes the people would consider voting for PN in the state election as the coalition has the capacity to govern the state effectively.

He said voters were able to accurately assess their choices though the Malay vote is split into four, five and even six corners.

Mohd Azrudin the strength of PN which dealt with the Covid-19 pandemic and provided assistance under the leadership of PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who was also the eighth prime minister would be the main factor for voters to choose PN.
