JITRA: The body of an angler who went missing after he slipped into a submerged paddy field before being swept away in a river in Kampung Seluang here yesterday, has been found.

Kedah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (rescue and operations), Mohamadul Ehsan Mohd Zain said the body of Omar Ismail, 22, was found about 9.20am today by the search and rescue (SAR) team.

"The body was found floating about three metres from where he was last spotted," he said when contacted.

He added that the body was handed over to the police before being taken to Jitra Hospital.

Mohamadul Ehsan said the victim was the first causality since the state was struck by floods last week.

In the 3pm incident yesterday, Omar was fishing with his father-in-law in a flooded paddy field before he was suddenly swept away into a nearby river.

A SAR mission comprising rescuers from the Fire and Rescue Department, the police and Malaysian Civil Defence Force was subsequently launched to locate the victim.
