KUALA LUMPUR: The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) successfully achieved its target of collecting RM110 million in deposits for the National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN) during its Bulan Menabung Simpan SSPN (BMS) 2021 held throughout this month.

PTPTN exceeded its target, achieving a collection of RM155 million, or 141 per cent of the target set for the 'Simpan SSPN' campaign launched this month.

PTPTN chief executive Ahmad Dasuki Abdul Majid attributed the success to the depositors, who made it possible despite the country being in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Congratulations and well done to all depositors because you have become your children's superheroes," he said in his speech during the closing ceremony, held online via PTPTN's official Facebook page today.

PTPTN launched its annual signature programme SSPN BMS 2021 earlier this month themed 'Galaxy', with a tagline of 'Let's Be A Superhero to Your Kids'.

The programme, which outlined a variety of activities and educational sub-programmes throughout the month of October, was held virtually in conjunction with World Savings' Day which is celebrated on Oct 31 annually.

Among the programmes held throughout the month were Sembang Santai BMS 2021, Forum Cakna Kewangan, Fotografi Simpan SSPN, Chef Junior Simpan SSPN, Simpan SSPN Got Talent, Colouring Contest Simpan SSPN, Snap & Win Simpan SSPN, Quizizz and Cabaran #SuperHeroSiManja.

The programme, first introduced in 2018, is one of PTPTN's continuous efforts to foster financial savings and smart financial planning among parents, for their children's future education through Simpan SSPN.

World Savings Day was introduced on Oct 31, 1924 during the 1st International Savings Bank Congress in Milan, Italy.

Keeping up with the spirit of saving for the future, Ahmad Dasuki said that PTPTN has targeted a total savings of RM1.8 billion with 400,000 new accounts for this year.

"As of September, 315,984 new Simpan SSPN accounts have already been opened with total deposits of RM1.78 billion," he said.
