KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia logged 96 Covid-19 deaths as of 11.59pm yesterday.

Based on data shared on the Health Ministry's CovidNow site, the figure includes 21 cases that were brought-in-dead (BID).

BID cumulative cases are now at 5,701.

To date, the coronavirus has claimed 28,234 lives including 5,701 BID victims.

Sarawak recorded the highest number of new deaths with 21 cases (including two BID), followed by Sabah with 16 (including 10 BID), Perak with 14, Kelantan with 13 (including 3 BID), Selangor with 12 (including three BID), Johor with eight (including two BID), Penang with six (including one BID), Pahang and Terengganu with two cases each and Perlis and Kedah with one case each.

Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya reported no new deaths.

At the national level, there was an average of 27 deaths per one million people over the past two weeks, while Klang Valley stood at 12 per one million people over the same period.

Perlis recorded the most number of deaths per one million people in the same period, with 78 deaths, followed by Sarawak (60) and Penang (43).

This was followed by Kelantan with 38, Perak (35), Johor (31), Sabah (27), Melaka (26), Pahang (19), Kedah (18), Terengganu (16), Negri Sembilan (13), Selangor and Kuala Lumpur (12), Putrajaya (nine) and Labuan with a zero fatality rate.

According to the data, 46 per cent of reported deaths related to Covid-19 involved people who were unvaccinated against the virus for the past two weeks.

Partially vaccinated people accounted for 9.4 per cent of the total fatalities linked to the coronavirus in the country, and 44.6 per cent of the total deaths were those who have been fully vaccinated.

The data available on the portal also stated that most of the people who died from the virus were aged 60 and above (73.2 per cent) while people aged 18 to 59 accounted for 26.1 per cent of the fatalities, followed by those aged 12 to 17 (0.3 per cent) and 0 to 11 years old (0.2 per cent).

Currently, 71.8 per cent of the total population has been fully vaccinated against the virus, involving 23,451,810 individuals, while 5.7 per cent (1,865,262 individuals) have received at least one dose, and 23 per cent (7,521,666 individuals) were unvaccinated.

It is projected that the country will achieve its goal 80 per cent population immunity in 55 days by Dec 16.

Meanwhile, 79.4 per cent of Covid-19 cases (70,896) are under home quarantine; 13.0 per cent (or 11,581) have been placed at Integrated Quarantine and Treatment Centres, and 6.9 per cent (or 6,194) are hospitalised.

The Health Ministry reported 366 patients currently being treated at Intensive Care Units (ICU) at healthcare facilities nationwide.

Of the total, 304 are ventilated.

On ICU utilisation, the rate nationwide stood at 62.7 per cent.

Sarawak reported the highest ICU utilisation rate at 79.8 per cent, followed by Perak (72.1), Selangor (71.7), Kuala Lumpur (70), Kelantan (67.2), Melaka (65.2), Penang (64.5), Pahang (61.9), Terengganu (61.4), Johor (58), Sabah (50.4), Putrajaya (50), Perlis (47.4), Kedah (47.2), Negri Sembilan (41.8), Labuan with 33.3 per cent.

Malaysia had on Thursday reported 6,210 new Covid-19 cases, after three straight days of being in the 5,000-case range, taking the cumulative number of cases to 2,413,592 since the pandemic struck the nation last year.

Selangor topped the list with 1,027 new infections, followed by Sarawak with 725 and Sarawak with 725.

Sabah reported 651 new cases, followed by Johor with 595, Kelantan (540), Terengganu (485), Perak (384), Penang (381), Kuala Lumpur (343), Kedah (319), Pahang (294), Melaka (235) with Negri Sembilan with 167.

Perlis, Putrajaya, and Labuan recorded 33, 29, and two cases respectively.
