KUALA LUMPUR: Media Prima Bhd has appointed Rafiq Razali as its new group managing director and Rosli Sabarudin as its group chief financial officer, effective today.

Media Prima Group chairman Datuk Seri Dr Syed Hussian Aljunid said the "time is right" to pave the way for a new leadership team, adding that both Rafiq and Rosli had been pivotal in driving the group's positive results in recent months.

"Rafiq has been at the forefront of the group's transformation efforts, having played a key role in the operational improvement and digitalisation initiatives across all our media platforms since 2016.

"His many contributions to the group include establishing Media Prima as the local industry leader in the digital realm.

"He has a strong understanding of the group's business operations and when combined with his prior experience leading successful digital start-ups and commerce companies, we are confident that Rafiq is the ideal choice to lead Media Prima to new levels of success."

Rafiq first joined Media Prima as REV Media Group chief executive officer on April 15, 2016, and was subsequently appointed as group executive director on Feb 18 this year.

He had been instrumental in leading Media Prima to become one of Malaysia's leading digital media companies through the unification of the group's digital strategy and expanding its digital reach and assets.

Rafiq began his career with Maxis Bhd where he held various positions before moving on to Groupon Malaysia 2011.

In 2015, Rafiq was part of the founding team that established KFit (now known as Face), a Malaysian start-up with operations across the Asia Pacific Region.

He is also currently an Endeavor mentor.

On Rosli's appointment, Syed Hussian said he had played a key role in several major transformation initiatives undertaken by the group over the years, with his strengths being process improvements and reengineering.

"We trust that he will continue to contribute greatly to Media Prima given his experience and familiarity with the Group's operations," he added.

Rosli first joined Media Prima in 2012 as financial controller for Media Prima Television Networks and Primeworks Studios.

He played an instrumental role in the setting up of CJ Wow Shop, now known as WowShop.

Rosli was then appointed as acting group chief financial officer on April 24, 2020, and had previously served as group general manager, finance (financial reporting, system and operations).

He began his career with Tenaga Nasional Berhad assuming various roles throughout his 14 years with the company, with his last appointment being TNB Remaco finance head.
