KUALA LUMPUR: The Consulate General of Malaysia in Melbourne, Australia has received no report of any Malaysians directly affected by this morning's earthquake in Mansfield.

"We are closely monitoring the situation and urge Malaysians to contact the Consulate in Melbourne if they need any assistance," the consulate said on Twitter just now.

Wisma Putra has yet to issue any statement on the incident.

For teenage Malaysians Aden Charles and his brother Adam, it was a shocking school holiday experience.

"We were just about to head downstairs for breakfast when the tremors occurred and we were speechless as we were not sure of what was happening," 16 year-old Aden told the New Straits Times.

"We rushed to alert our parents who were working from home and we grabbed our five-year old sister Adelina who was still in bed and we all ran downstairs and out of our home to safety," added Adam.

The family, who resides in the Keilor East suburb, joined their neighbours outdoors and later brought in their elderly mother back into the house once they felt it was safe to return indoors.

"My aunt and cousin were out of the house at the time we felt the earthquake at 9.15am Melbourne time," said Aden.

"It has definitely been a significant and scary morning of 30 seconds of non-stop rattling for all of us."

A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck near the southern Australian city today, according to the Victoria State Emergency Service's (VICSES News) Twitter account.

"A magnitude 6.0 Earthquake has occurred with an epicentre near Mansfield in Victoria," the tweet from VICSES News read, calling on citizens to "please be patient as lines may be busy."
