KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Islamic Religion and Malay Customs Council (MAIK) has allowed a congregation of 40 people to perform Friday prayers at all mosques in the state beginning today.

Its president Tengku Tan Sri Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz said the directive applied to the mosques in all districts and sub-districts in Kelantan.

However, he said the permission to perform the prayers during Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan was only granted to mosque staff and fully vaccinated staff.

The directive for Friday and daily prayers received consent from Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Mohammed V as the state's religious leader.

"All mosque staff and congregations must also be fully vaccinated.

"They also must wear a two layer face mask when entering the mosques," said Mohamad Rizam, who is also Tengku Temenggong Kelantan.

He added that members of the congregation are required to spend a short time in mosques and suraus to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 infection.

"They must go to the mosques one hour before Friday's prayer and 30 minutes for the daily prayers," he said.

In addition, he added that all doors and windows at the mosques and surau must be opened to ensure proper ventilation.

He said meetings including lectures and Quran reading were not allowed.
