KUALA LUMPUR: Pahang and Putrajaya have the highest Covid-19 infectivity rate or R-naught (Rt) as of July 4.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said both these territories recorded an 1.17 Rt, which was higher than the national Rt which now stood at 1.06.

"Other states with an Rt of more than 1.0 are Melaka (1.12), Selangor (1.08), Kuala Lumpur (1.06), Kedah (1.05), Penang (1.04), Perak (1.04) and Sabah (1.02)," he said in a statement today.

Dr Noor Hisham said the Covid-19 claimed 77 lives today, comprising 73 Malaysians and four foreigners, aged between 29 and 87.

Of this total, 13 were brought-in-dead cases.

He said Malaysia continued to record more than 6,000 new Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours with 6,387 new infections recorded.

This brings the national cumulative number of cases to 785,039, of which 69,447 were active cases.

Of the new cases, 26 were imported involving 13 citizens and 13 foreigners.

Selangor remains as the state with the highest number of cases with 2,610 infections reported, followed by Kuala Lumpur (819) and Negri Sembilan (523).

Other states with three-digit figures in cases were Sarawak (424), Johor (324), Pahang (312), Kedah (273), Sabah (263), Perak (249), Melaka (206), Penang (157) and Kelantan (114).

Labuan registered 71 cases, followed by Putrajaya (25) and Terengganu (17). There were no new infections recorded in Perlis today.

Dr Noor Hisham said 4,532 patients had recovered from the coronavirus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 710,018.

"A total of 923 cases are currently treated at the intensive care units, and 433 of them are on ventilation support," he said.

Meanwhile, 13 new clusters were identified in Negri Sembilan, Johor, Sabah, Pahang, Sarawak, Kedah, Penang and Kelantan.

These new clusters have so far contributed to 381 cases.

Eleven of these clusters were related to workplaces, namely Industri Tech Valley Sendayan and Industri TTJ 2 clusters in Negri Sembilan; Jalan Harmoni Sembilan and Jalan Sri Sulong (Johor); Lorong Berjaya and Jalan Kayu Madang ( Sabah); Industri Bentong Sebelas 2 and Industri Jerantut Feri (Pahang); Industri 121 Kuala Baram ( Sarawak ); Dah Satu Industri Kulim (Kedah) and Lintang Macallum Dua (Penang).

The remaining two were community clusters in Kelantan, known as the Kampung Bakong Gunong and Kampung Bechah Tembesu clusters.
