KUALA LUMPUR: The electricity discounts announced under the Pakej Perlindungan Rakyat dan Pemulihan Ekonomi (Pemulih) are expected to benefit over 9.1 million domestic and non-domestic Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) account holders in Peninsular Malaysia.

About 7.4 million customers will enjoy between five to 40 per cent discounts, while 1.6 million small and medium enterprises (SME) under the commercial, industrial and specific agricultural low-voltage categories will be given a five per cent discount.

Another 11,800 customers in six business sectors will enjoy 10 per cent discounts under the Pemerkasa Plus initiative.

"The six sectors are hotels, theme parks, convention centres, shopping malls, local airline offices as well as tour and travel agencies.

"These sectors will also get to continue enjoying 10 per cent discount under the Pemulih package until December 31.

"Apart from the RM1 billion Pemulih package, customers in the peninsula will also enjoy the Imbalance Cost Pass-Through (ICPT) rebate of 2 cents/kWh from July till December 2021," TNB said in a statement, today.

The Pemulih Electricity Discount for domestic and SME customers, TNB said, is calculated on electric usage from July 1 until September 30, 2021.

"We are taking necessary measures to ensure smooth implementation of discounts. Our customers will only see the discount in their bills beginning July 15, 2021.

"Adjustments for July bills will be recorded in August 2021 bills for customers who usually receive their bills between July 1 till 14, 2021".

TNB estimated over 2.9 million account holders, with electricity usage of 200kWh and under, will enjoy 40 per cent discounts.

"1.4 million account holders with 201kWh till 300kWh electricity usage, whose bills are recorded between RM43.93 till RM77, will enjoy 15 per cent discounts.

"2.4 million account holders with 301kWh till 600kWh electricity usage will enjoy 10 per cent discount. Their electricity bills should amount between RM77.52 till RM231.80.

"Meanwhile, 0.7 million of customers with 601kWh till 900kWh electricity usage that amounts to RM232.35 till RM395.60 will enjoy 5 per cent discount".

TNB said customers who receive their bills throughout July 2021 will enjoy the discount according to the number of days of electricity usage in July.

"The discount is calculated after taking into account the ICPT rebate while a full discount will be given for August and September.

"For example, customers receiving their bills on July 11 for their usage between June 12 to July 11 will get to enjoy the electricity discount for their usage from July 1 till 11.

"If their 30-day usage is 220kWh, a discount of 15 per cent will be given after taking into account the ICPT rebate.

"And since the billing is between July 1 to 14, the discounted amount will be reflected in the August bill".

TNB, in cooperation with the government, gives its assurance there will be no power cuts to all customers during Phase One of the National Recovery Plan (NRP),

"We would defer power cuts to domestic users with arrears not exceeding six months, until September 30, 2021, as well as offering Easy Payment Plan for domestic users until December 31, 2021".
