KUALA LUMPUR: All new marriage applications in Federal Territories will be postponed starting today.

The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) on Twitter said the new ruling through the Guidelines for the Implementation of the Marriage Ceremony Council in the Federal Territory, was made following the implementation of the first phase of the full lockdown which was enforced today.

The ruling also received the approval of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

"The akad nikah (marriage solemnisation ceremony) during this period will only be allowed to couples who had obtained approval from Jawi.

"All new applications to obtain permission to marry during the Movement Control Order (MCO) 3.0 (full movement restrictions phase one) will be postponed," it said.

During the MCO, it said akad nikah ceremonies in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan, only the couple and wali (legal guardian) are allowed to be present.

The marriage official and two witnesses will be from Jawi and all those scheduled to be present at the wedding must undergo Covid-19 swab test, even if they have been vaccinated.

The screening test must be done three days before the ceremony and submitted to the marriage officials before the event.
