KOTA KINABALU: The state Tourism, Culture, and Environment Ministry has called on all hoteliers in Sabah to apply for the state government's one-off grant.

Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin said, to date, less than 200 hoteliers have applied for the grant through the Sabah Tourism Board (STB).

"We should have more than 600 accommodations that are eligible to apply for this grant. I urge all eligible hoteliers to take this opportunity to apply for this grant and I hope this will give some relief for the hotels here in Sabah," he said in a statement.

The one-off grant is divided into three categories, where 4- to 5-star hotels will receive one-off RM5,000; orchid to 3-star hotels will get RM2,000; and hotels with no rating and the bed and breakfast category would eligible for one-off RM1,000 upon approval.

Jafry said the application for this grant is open until the end of May and forms are available on the STB's corporate website www.tourism.sabah.gov.my.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to remind the public that while tourism is allowed within each zone, please be responsible travellers and adhere to standard operating procedures," he added.
