KUANTAN: The RM10,000 compound issued to a mosque in Pekan yesterday was nothing more than an oversight by the premises management.

State Religious Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Seri Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad said the mosque was already equipped with the MySejahtera QR Code and temperature screening facilities.

However, the mosque management had kept these items inside the premises as it was not prayer time (incident at 11am) and there was no congregation present at the mosque, he said.

"I contacted the mosque (management) regarding the incident and was told that they had been complying with the Covid-19 prevention standard operating procedures (SOP).

"But they did not place the items at the entrance throughout the day, which was an oversight on their part as they had assumed the (MySejahtera) QR Code only had to be made available during prayer time or when the congregation arrived for prayers.

"The SOP requires the (MySejahtera) QR Code to be on display at the entrance around the clock," he said when contacted.

Syed Ibrahim also reminded mosques and surau including those located in the rural areas or traditional villages to always display the printout of the MySejahtera QR Code at the entrance.

"The Pahang Islamic Religious Department will keep monitoring things at the mosques and surau to ensure the premises always comply to safety measures and requirements set by the health authorities," he said.

Yesterday, the Pekan District Health Office staff had gone to the premises about 11am and issued the compound once they noticed the mosque's management did not register the names of congregants as required.

State Health director Datuk Dr Bahari Che Awang Ngah was reported saying the payment had been made by the mosque with a 50 per cent discount given.

News went viral on social media that the chairman of the Sri Maulana Mosque Committee had been issued a compound of RM10,000 for allegedly not providing the QR Code and registration book during the inspection.
