SETIU: Continuous heavy rain in Terengganu's interior has exacerbated floods and forced the evacuation of more victims in Kemaman and Dungun.

As of 10am, 804 people from 205 families are taking shelter at nine flood relief centres (PPS).

In Kemaman, six relief centres were opened to accommodate 609 people from 145 families.

They are taking shelter at Teladas civic hall, Surau Kg Ban Ho, Sekolah Kebangsaan Lembah Jabor, Air Putih civic hall, Sekolah Kebangsaan Teluk Kalung and Sekolah Kebangsaan Kemasik.

In Dungun, three relief centres were opened to provide shelter for 195 people from 60 families.

They are at Kampung Pasir Raja civic hall, Kampung Shukur multi-purpose hall and Kampung Minda civic hall.

Terengganu Disaster Management Committee secretariat Chief Lieutenant Colonel (PA) Che Adam A Rahman said strong winds and intermittent heavy rain have been recorded along coastal areas and in the interior.

"The situation is expected to continue in the next 24 hours and rescuers are on alert to evacuate flood victims when necessary.

"We are also monitoring coastal areas eroded by the seas and preventing the public from visiting the affected areas," he said.
