SETIU: Floods today forced 138 people from 40 families to evacuate their homes in Kemaman and Dungun following continuous heavy rain over the past 48 hours.

In Dungun, two relief centres were opened at the Kampung Pasir Raja community hall and the Kampung Shukor multipurpose hall, where 92 victims from 29 families have sought shelter.

In Kemaman, one relief centre at the Teladas civic hall was opened to 49 evacuees from 11 families.

Rescue agencies are on alert as heavy rain continued to pound the interior in these districts.

Terengganu disaster management committee secretariat Chief Lieutenant Colonel (PA) Che Adam A Rahman advised those in low-lying areas to be prepared to evacuate their homes should the flood situation worsen.
