TUARAN: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor today urged new councillors in local district authorities to aim towards making Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan 2021-2025 a success.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the government will launch a new direction towards boosting the state's economic growth through the implementation of the plan.

He said the plan was now in the final phase before its launch next month.

"Apart from focusing on addressing public health issues, the government will also formulate strategies and approaches to stimulate the development of the state again.

"The SMJ plan serves as a guide to the direction of government policies and programs to achieve targets and goals that coincide with the development needs of the state," he said, during the handover ceremony of appointment letters to Tuaran District Council Members for the Year 2020-2022 here.

Hajiji said Sabah's 2021 Budget has allocated RM25.5 million for various public facilities in 24 local authorities and RM4 million for the economic growth of new towns in Sabah.

"To strengthen the competitiveness of local authorities in terms of working capital as well, a total of RM36.53 million contribution to local authorities in the government budget in 2021.

"I hope the appointed district council members are ready to equip themselves with knowledge and understanding of the functions, roles and duties of carrying out responsibilities."

Earlier, a total of 20 Tuaran district council members took their oath and signed the letter of appointment.

Also present were Tuaran District Officer Mohd Sofian Alfian Nair, permanent Secretary of Sabah Ministry of Local Government and Housing Datuk Hajah Masnah Matsalleh, Sabah Assistant Finance Minister Jasni Daya, Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai and the Rural Development Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim.
