SETIU: The number of flood victims in four Terengganu districts now stands at 5,869 people from 1,516 families, with agencies involved in rescue operations on high alert to evacuate more people tonight.

As at 8pm, 4,961 people from 1,198 families in Kemaman have been evacuated to 24 relief centres.

In Dungun, 305 people from 84 families have sought shelter at eight relief centres while in Setiu, 11 victims are staying at one relief centres.

In Hulu Terengganu, 592 people from 231 people have been evacuated to 10 relief centres.

State Civil Defence Force director Lt- Col (PA) Che Adam Abdul Rahman said water levels of major rivers at upstream affecting some flooded areas had received.

"However, the continuous rain may result in a further rise in water levels at low-lying areas downstream as indicative by the increase in evacuees.

"My men and those from agencies involved in rescue operation are on standby to evacuate those affected by the floods," he said.
