SETIU: The worsening flood situation in Terengganu has forced 972 people from two districts to evacuate their homes as rainfall continues unabated, now for more than 48 hours.

In Kemaman, 824 people from 199 families have been evacuated to seven flood relief centres.

In Dungun, 148 people from 47 families have taken shelter at three centres.

State Civil Defence Force director Lt-Col (PA) Che Adam Abdul Rahman said heavy rain in the interior has flooded low-lying areas along major rivers in the districts.

"We expect more evacuations following a weather forecast by the Meteorological Department that heavy rain is expected to continue until tomorrow," he said.
