SETIU: Heavy rains over the past 24 hours have triggered floods which forced 275 people in four districts to seek refuge at eight relief centres.

With continuous downpours predicted over the next 12 hours, the fourth wave of floods in the state is expected to lead to more evacuations today.

In Kemaman, four relief centres were opened to accommodate 203 people from 56 families.

In Besut, 18 people from six families are taking shelter at Dewan Futsal Kampung Keruak and in Dungun, 23 people from four families were evacuated to the Kampung Minda civic centre.

In Setiu, 31 people from 15 families are being accommodated at two relief centres after Sungai Hulu Seladang burst its banks.

State Civil Defence Force director Lt- Col (PA) Che Adam Abdul Rahman said the flooded areas are located in the interior.

"Continuous heavy rain has been reported in the interior, and my men are on standby to evacuate those trapped in the floods," he said.
