KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department has postponed until Dec 31 the entry of all new and returning international students who had received approval to enter Malaysia.

Its director-general, Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud, said this was in line with the Higher Education Ministry's call on Friday to postpone physical registration and face-to-face studies at higher education institutions for the October semester.

"The department has been informed that the Higher Education Ministry has discussed the travel rescheduling of international students with airlines," he said in a statement yesterday.

The Higher Education Ministry, in a statement on Friday, said student registration could be done online.

"Registration can be done online, as well as aspects of teaching and learning, until a new announcement is made," it said.

The ministry said it was taking into account the views of various parties, including students, parents and the community, following an increase in Covid-19 cases that had taken place only a few days before the admission date of new students.
