TASEK GELUGOR: "Spider-Man" and "Mickey Mouse" welcomed some 300 Year Five and Six pupils of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pengkalan Jaya back to school this morning after a long break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The cartoon characters also handed out face masks to the excited pupils.
The initiative was taken by the office of the Permatang Berangan state assemblywoman and the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) to motivate the pupils back to school after they were allowed to since the pandemic.
Permatang Berangan assemblywoman Nor Hafizah Othman said, besides handing out face masks, they also decided to bring along the all-time favourite cartoon characters to liven up the mood.
"Our efforts clearly have not gone to waste as the pupils were visibly cheerful with the surprise.
"They are clearly excited and can't wait to begin the school session after a four-month break," she said when met.
She also commended the school management which strictly adhered to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in ensuring the safety and health of the pupils.
She expressed hope that all would go well when Year One to Four pupils returning next week.

Rashidi Md Arshad said they were grateful for the surprise, which clearly encouraged the pupils to return to school.
"We hope such motivation will give the pupils' strength to adapt themselves to school life in the 'new normal'.
"We will do our very best to ensure the SOPs are strictly observed to prevent the spread of Covid-19," he added.
