KUALA LUMPUR: Local cinema chain Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) is ready to roll, and is promising moviegoers the latest blockbusters upon its reopening on July 1.

The movie theatre giant wasted no time in announcing the show times for its film line-up during the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) via its social media platforms and website today.

Cinema chains were given the green light to resume their operations starting on Wednesday after being shuttered for over three months by the MCO.

GSC also revealed that the operating hours for its outlets are 1pm to 10pm from Mondays to Thursdays; 12noon to midnight from Fridays to Saturdays, and 11am to 10pm on Sundays.

According to a spokesman, GSC, which has 37 cineplexes nationwide – 18 of which are in the Klang Valley – is working closely with film distributors and studios on the release dates for movies that were supposed to be screened during the MCO period.

Among films set to debut on the big screen are 'Digimon Adventure', 'Low Season', 'Kaiji: Final Game' and 'The Bridge Curse'.

GSC will also be screening reruns such as 'Train To Busan', 'Bloodshot',' Jumanji: Welcome Back To The Jungle', 'Venom', 'Spiderman Homecoming', 'Pee Nak 2' and 'Baaghi 3' among others.

The spokesman added that while GSC is relieved and happy to resume operations after a difficult three-month shutdown, they will be implementing the necessary safety measures and precautions in line with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines for public safety and health.

"Among the measures and precautions that will be taken are temperature checks that will be conducted for all employees, moviegoers and other guests; with movie-goers and guests required to complete a digital declaration form to facilitate contact tracing.

"We will also be controlling the number of people in the common areas of the cinemas to prevent unnecessary overcrowding in line with social distancing. And during this time, cinemagoers are encouraged to purchase their movie tickets online to avoid physical queuing," he revealed.

The spokesman added that social distancing also means that the cinema halls will have the necessary gap where seating is concerned.

"(Other) measures are enhanced cleaning and regular sanitisation of frequently used facilities, as well as disinfection of seats after every screening.

"Our staff will also be required to wear face masks as part of the new daily operations, whereas customers will also be advised to wear face masks when they enter the cinema.
