KUALA LUMPUR: The government will allow international students attending public or private universities here to enter the country to resume their studies.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob told a press conference today the permission was also applicable to all international school students.

However, these students would only be allowed in the country after registering with the Higher Education Ministry as well as the Education Ministry for verification purposes and they were not required to apply for a special pass with the Immigration Department.

"The students must undergo Covid-19 screening tests at their home countries or upon arrival in Malaysia.

"If the students come from countries categorised as a Covid-19 red zone, they must be placed under the 14-day quarantine at their residence and download the MySejahtera application.

"For those from green zones, they only need to be screened for Covid-19 but are not required to be under quarantine for 14-days at home (should they test negative)," he said.

Ismail said there were also requests by local students to travel abroad to sit for their examinations at their respective universities.

He said that the students would not require to apply for a travel permit with the Immigration Department but must present a valid student registration letter before departure.

"There are also students who would need to head back to their universities abroad due to the dates that had been set by their universities for examinations.

"There is no need for approval from the Immigration Department before their departure. The students must present a valid document to prove their student registration at the Immigration counter at the airport," he said.

Ismail said for Malaysians seeking to travel abroad for emergency or business purposes, they must present valid documentation to the Immigration officers at the airport.
