TUARAN: The Tuaran district hospital here is still operating as usual despite rumours that 22 of its staff have been quarantined following contact with a Covid-19 positive patient.

Although one of six new cases in Sabah yesterday is from Tenghilan near here, the hospital director Dr G. Mohan Gopal Naidoo denied that the quarantine measure taken on its staff was directly associated with it.

"The quarantine of staff at INTAN campus here was a normal procedure undertaken by those who work in the frontlines. It does not necessary mean they have been infected after contact with a patient positive for Covid-19," he said.

Dr MohanGopal said that after their quarantine period was over and their results were negative for the virus, they would return to the hospital.

He also clarified that the district hospital and other health clinics were operating smoothly.

He said the community was allowed to go to nearby clinics for outpatient treatment as doctors were available.

"Covid-19 infection can come from anyone. I hope the public will stop making speculations and spread it on social media without concrete evidence," he said, adding that the public could obtain verified news direct from the Health Ministry.
