BATU KAWAN: People visiting supermarkets and malls were reminded to adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) set by the authorities when shopping.

Deputy Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Minister Datuk Rosol Wahid said enforcement would be carried out under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.

He said since May 13, the SOP compliance there has been good including observing social distancing and premises owners providing sanitizers.

"A total 5,469 business premises have begun operations and KPDNHEP has advised 241 of them, including nine warnings to visitors to adhere to the SOPs.

"We have advised and warned them early as many were unaware of the SOPs. They correct themselves once warnings are given," he said during a press conference after visiting Easy Pack Technology Sdn Bhd factory at the Penang Science Park here today.

He said mall and supermarket operators also played a role to inform their customers to adhere to the SOPs at all times.

"Everyone must play their part to break the chain of the Covid-19 infection.

"If the number of new cases does not increase till tomorrow, the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) may be shortened, as mentioned by Health director general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

"This shows the importance if adhering to the SOPs."

Rosol said that KPDNHEP's enforcement focused on the food sectors, retail and also e-commerce.
