KUCHING: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) has introduced an online marketing initiative to help craft entrepreneurs sustain their businesses as the country battles the Covid-19 pandemic.

Its minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the platform is aimed at promoting and marketing local crafts such as textile, ceramic, metal, and more, from various local entrepreneurs.

The initiative, aptly called e-kraf bazar on Facebook, was launched by Kraftangan Malaysia recently.

“We hope to help ease the process for both the sellers and consumers especially during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period. Consumers can buy their essential products via this platform for preparations to celebrate the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfiri, Tadau Kaamatan and Gawai Dayak.

“To date, e-kraf bazar has received more than 3,000 interested applicants and we are expecting to see more than 700 local craft entrepreneurs joining in. We hope the page will garner some 2.3 million followers,” she said in a statement today.

Explaining further, she said it is hoped that the e-kraf bazar would provide the much-needed opportunity to entrepreneurs to promote their products.

“Moreover, with the current technology and marketing trend, they can run their businesses by using only their smartphones. And so we hope more entrereneurs will join our platform and help each other sustain the industry,” she said.
