KANGAR: Perlis has gone against the norm adopted by other states which only allows Ramadan bazaars to operate via the E-bazaar or online platform concept.

Instead, the northern most state in the peninsula has given the green light for Ramadan traders to operate from their respective homes and by the road shoulders in the fasting month due to the ongoing Movement Control Order (MCO).

Its Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man said traders were allowed to conduct their business provided they adhered strictly to the MCO conditions.

He said the state’s option was an alternative after other states decided there would be no Ramadan Bazaars this year.

“There are two ways this can be conducted, either the customer goes to the trader’s home to purchase the Ramadan delicacies or the trader utilises a delivery service to send the purchased items to the customers home.

“Meanwhile, on business being operated on road shoulders, we allow it, provided there is no food and beverage service offered at the premises and there is strict social distancing and no gatherings at such places,” he said today at the State Assembly Complex.

Earlier, Azlan handed a cheque worth RM1 million to the representative of frontliners as an initiative payment to 4,687 personnel from 14 Perlis agencies.

On Selangor’s move to suspend Friday congregational prayers as well as its associated sermons and religious lectures until May 31, Azlan said Perlis had yet to decide on weather it would follow suit.

“It is too early as whatever action taken would be dependent on the outcome of the situation throughout the third phase of the MCO which concludes on April 28,” he said.

Meanwhile, Azlan urged residents who had visited any area categorised as Red Zone to be isolated at quarantine areas.
