PUTRAJAYA: Chief Justice Tan Sri Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat said the Judiciary will be writing to the police soon to check on the status of the judicial interference probe.

She said since a pending lawsuit (relating to the matter) was disposed of in the High Court recently, now they could move to check on the status of the investigation by the police.

"When the suit was pending, we did not see it fit to proceed with the internal investigations or to be checking with the police.

“But now that suit in the High Court has been disposed of, we think that it is an appropriate time to check with the police on the status of their investigations so that on our part we can deal with whatever has to be done in the judiciary aspect," she said after launching the opening of Legal Year 2020 here today.

She said she will be writing to the Inspector General of Police (Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador) and the letter will be sent by the Chief Registrar as soon as possible.

At the International Malaysia Law Conference on Aug 16, 2018, Judge Datuk Hamid Sultan Abu Backer revealed that he was reprimanded by a top judge for giving a dissenting judgment in the Indira Gandhi case in 2016.

On Aug 23 the same year, the daughter of the late Karpal Singh lodged a report following claims by a lawyer that a senior judge had meddled in the decision of a sedition appeal case involving her late father.

Following that on Aug 31, a daily, quoting a statement by the Chief Justice’s Office, reported that an internal inquiry into the allegations had begun.

According to the statement, “after the result of the internal investigation is received, the chief justice will take appropriate action”.
