KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (RTD) has collected RM1.165 million of window tint service fees, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar said the fees were collected from 413 applications for safety or security purposes since August.

“A fee of RM50 will be charged for every application and upon approval, they will have to pay RM5,000 for every two years.

“For application due to health reasons, no charges will be imposed,” he said in reply to a question by Wong Kah Woh (PH-Ipoh Timur).

It was reported that from 2011 to 2018 some 20,000 cars were allowed darker window tinting but had not generated revenue for the government.

Wong had asked about the fees collected from the application to install darker tinting on windows and the criteria for approval.

Kamarudin said a special committee chaired by RTD director-general would go through each application.
