JOHOR BARU: SK Taman Damansara Aliff (SKTDA), in association with the English Language and Literature Department and English Language Society (ELS) of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), organised an English Language Fun Camp here, recently.

The camp, held from Nov 4 to 5, involved 35 ELS committee members who helped 150 Standard 3 pupils strengthen their mastery of the English language.

The programme’s main objective was to cultivate an interest in English language learning and usage among the pupils.

SKTDA headmistress Norpisah Ibrahim said the approach ensured that the kids had fun while learning, thanks to facilitators led by Divenes Egambaram.

The camp featured fun and interactive exercises which exposed the students to different strategies designed to help them use and improve their grasp of the language. The three workshops were: Choral Speaking, Digital Storytelling and Drama.

The kids were able to stage an engaging dramatic performance, participate in a vibrant storytelling session, and take part in an enjoyable choral speaking session.

UPSI head of department of the Faculty of Languages and Communication, Dr Hasimah Jaafar, said English can be used wherever you are in the world, in almost any situation.

“While you are playing, eating or even resting, let English be embedded in you, always,” she said.

As a platform that helped participants practise their English, the camp also helped students build their confidence in striking up conversations with others.
