SEREMBAN: Up to 118 vehicles were submerged when floodwaters inundated the Sungai Gadut KTM station parking lot here during a downpour, on Thursday night.

The affected vehicles comprised a lorry, 28 motorcycles and 89 cars, MPVs and SUVs which were parked at the station when the flooding occurred.

“Water rose rapidly following the heavy rain, resulting in all the vehicles being stranded and inaccessible.

“The owners were unable to claim their vehicles yesterday and had to wait until this morning, when the water receded,” said KTM southern operations officer Osman Daud when met here, today.

Regular commuter Hisham Atan, 49, said that this was first time the train station parking lot had been flooded.

“I have been traveling to my workplace, a bank in Kuala Lumpur, for four years now. It’s unforeseen and unfortunate that my multi-purpose vehicle (MPVs), which I parked here, was submerged,” he said.

Hisham, who lives in Taman Tuanku Jaafar, Senawang, said he hopes the flooding will not recur.

Norhazni Hamzah, 47, who accompanied her husband to retrieve their car, said the vehicle had been fully submerged.

She said the car was only half-submerged when her husband arrived at the station after work, but that he was prohibited from entering the parking lot as the water was still rising rapidly.

The downpour, which started at around 3pm yesterday, also caused flash flooding in Sungai Gadut, Jalan Seremban-Tampin and the Senawang light industrial area.
