NILAI: Nine shop units were destroyed in a fire at Nilai 3 Industrial Zone here this morning, which also saw a woman injured.
In the 9am incident, the 29-year-old woman suffered burn injuries on her arms and legs.
Fire and Rescue Department (Operation) senior assistant chief Bakarya Mohd Salleh said the department received an emergency call at 9.15am and despatched an engine from Nilai station to the location.
A total of 30 personnel and firefighters, including seven back-up engines from Seremban 2, Mantin and Seremban stations, were rushed to the scene.
“The shops involved were sundry, carpet, furniture, lighting, and a restaurant. The firemen took 30 minutes to control the fire from spreading to other units and the fire was totally put out 30 minutes later,” he said, adding that the total loss and cause of fire are still being investigated.
The injured woman was treated at the location by medical officers from the Emergency Medical Rescue Services and Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital.
Meanwhile, a sundry shop worker nearby informed that when he was about to open the shop, there was a small explosion coming from the fuse box and it quickly burst into flames.
He and his friends tried to put out the fire using fire extinguishers but to no avail before they called the fire station.
